Gerald R. Massey III, Partner
Trey Massey co-founded The Residential Group with Pablo Diego and Kurt Alexander in 2010, and he has worked in the real estate industry since the 1990s. Throughout his career, he has developed strong financial, analytical, asset management and underwriting skills that are tailored to residential and commercial real estate development and management. More recently, has been focused on high density residential, mixed-use, and affordable housing. He has built a strong understanding of acquisition, development, asset management and financing of multifamily communities.

From 2004 to 2010, Trey was CFO and one of three founding partners of York Residential, LLC in Atlanta. He was responsible for all joint venture and debt financing for the company’s acquisition and development activities. Developments ranged from traditional garden style apartments to mid and high rise developments. Active from South Florida to the Mid-Atlantic, York successfully completed three projects totaling 800 units — selling two — and acquired land for an additional pipeline of over 1,600 units that including two large mixed-use and TOD rezoning endeavors.
From 1999 to 2004 Mr. Massey was a Managing Director with Trammell Crow Residential in Atlanta. He was in charge of Affordable Housing, and most recently served as the program director in a joint venture with the Atlanta Housing Authority to revitalize Capitol and Grady Homes, and later with MARTA for a market rate development on the King Memorial Station site. Concurrently, he managed the development of two high-density, market-rate infill projects in Atlanta totaling 561 units. They had a combined market value over $100 Million. In his initial capacity with TCR, he coordinated accounting, financial reporting, joint venture financing, and asset management for the Southeast Division, which included equity and debt financing for all 1,700 developments in Georgia, Tennessee, and the Carolinas.
Prior to joining TCR, Trey was a Development and Acquisitions Analyst for Berkshire Realty Company, Inc. (NYSE-BRI), a multifamily REIT, which owned and managed a portfolio of over 23,000 units. At BRI, he was responsible for targeting, underwriting, designing, and closing multifamily development sites, student housing developments, and acquisitions. The result was the addition of over 7,800 units in the Southeast, Mid-Atlantic, and Texas. He began his career in 1993 as Development Analyst/Property Manager with Paces Properties Inc., an Atlanta-based multi-use commercial development firm.
Trey received a bachelors in financial management and real estate from Clemson University. He is a licensed real estate broker in Georgia and a member of Urban Land Institute and the Atlanta Apartment Association.
